Job Stuff

I haven't said much about my job recently. But if you're reading, you already know that, so why am I saying it? Oh yeah. Segue into talking about my job.

I am having some seriously ambivalent feelings about work lately. There are a lot of reasons for that, none of them particularly political, because I'm fully on board with that element of it all. But there are a lot of things happening all at once and I'm not feeling great about aspects of it, in general.

Some of this stuff is just the fact that we aren't reaching people, which is always a challenge when it comes to this time of year. If you have the funding to donate amounts to groups/charities/worthy causes, you probably also are traveling to some place nice, like a ski trip, a beach, Grandma's house.

Please note, the Democratic National Committee has taken the rest of the year off for fundraising, and will resume calling after the 1st. In the meanwhile, I'm working on President Obama's initiative, Organizing For Action, formerly known as Obama For America. But, that's a bit of a slow go too. However OFA, the NEW OFA, is a non-partisan, issue based organization, dedicated to moving President Obama's agenda forward: fighting against climate change, taking on the gun lobby, setting up immigration reform, and of course, health care. I even got a registered republican to donate 1000 dollars to it!

The irony here is that my employers at the company that has been hired to make these calls and contacts for the organizations we represent, is planning to reduce the hours we are permitted to work, this, so they won't have to cover our health insurance costs. I'm embarrassed just to say that, but that's exactly what's happening. Also, the minimum wage is (finally) going up, and some of us think that will also have an impact on available hours to work and other aspects of our jobs. If only the DNC and President Obama knew that the organization that raised so much money to help in his reelection was doing this? Well, they'll never know.

I'm also currently making calls for the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestra as they are doing their "Annual Fund." I'm definitely not enthusiastic about this, especially speaking with the good people of Cincinnati, who are apparently in some pretty dire straits financially. It's really depressing to have to hear the stories of fixed incomes, social security checks, and lucky I can even attend a performance, when I'm asking for support for an organization that only covers about sixty-five percent of its costs through ticket sales. Conversely, I did talk to one mom on her cell, as she was driving the family to Florida. If you can go... you do go.

Speaking of going, It probably is time for me to leave this job. Yes, there are a bunch more campaigns starting in the new year, including Emily's List, ACLU, Planned Parenthood and the triumphant return of the DNC, but I don't know. Part of me wanted to hang around to see if Hillary announces, and work on her campaign because I would be all about that. But that's at least... 9 months away?

Plus, I'm spending all my time helping someone else achieve their dreams. Whatever happened to my dreams. What were they, anyway?

Oh yeah. I was talking about going to Los Angeles. It seems my old co-worker, Danny managed to at least get a Wells Fargo commercial there, which ran in October/November. Here it is:

Danny appears at the 41 second mark saying "motorcycle."

And no, it hasn't been lost on me that the title of the commercial is "Meet Sydney Achieving Her Dreams"

Also, note that the musician in the ad isn't named Sydney. She's actually Andy Allo

But I haven't heard a thing from him since then and that can only mean one thing: nothing is happening. He did get some new headshots, none of which dissuade my thought that he is more than ready to play a serial killer in some TV movie.

But I better start sorting out everything for me. I really need to leave the current job now. Maybe that's my new year's resolution.

I would like to see what Hillary can achieve as well. No matter what you think of her personality or looks or agenda, or what have you, that woman KNOWS how to set goals and then achieves them. She has proven through her life that whatever goal she sets, she will GET. It only matters if you agree with her goals.

Good Luck!

Obviously, it would be a case of the Democrats making history, yet again, with Hillary being the first Woman in the Oval Office.

Clearly, she's not going to declare too soon for a couple of reasons. It would first make President Obama seem more like a lame duck when she does, and that won't benefit the country. But perhaps more strategically, it keeps the Republicans from mounting some sort of smear campaign against her, which they would run until November 2016.

It's possible she won't run, but all signs have been very seriously pointing towards her getting a campaign going.

Thanks as always for the good wishes!!

Also, Danny seems pretty funny. Haha. Like a poor man's GOB in that scene anyway.

Um... you're definitely giving Danny WAY more credit than he deserves. Even for that scene!

A really poor, impoverished, lost his pension GOB then.
